We have all heard about how smoking can cause cancer and heart disease, but were you aware of the damage it can cause to your eyes? Studies show that smoking can double a person’s risk of developing cataracts, can triple the risk of developing macular degeneration, can cause dry eye or other eye complications.
The American Cancer Society’s Great American Smokeout is the third Thursday of November every year. This event challenges Americans to stop using tobacco products and offers tools and support to help people quit. Many smokers and tobacco users make plans to quit or to celebrate the fact that they have quit. The American Cancer Society states that people are more successful in quitting when they have 2 or more tools to support them in this challenge.
